ABOUT OUR COMMITTEE AND COMMUNITY POOL

The Bloomsburg Town Pool Renovation committee organized four years ago as a 501 C(3) nonprofit subcommittee of the Town Park Improvement Association. The committee’s purpose was to conduct a long-term campaign to raise funds to renovate the Bloomsburg Town Pool. In 2020 the Pool Renovation committee established its own nonprofit organization, called Friends of the Bloomsburg Town Pool. Over the years, Friends’ volunteers have conducted numerous fundraising activities, including writing grants. Once the pool reopens members of the nonprofit group plan to continue fundraising, but to a smaller extent, which will provide some additional annual financial support for the pool.

Opened in 1955, the community pool was last renovated in 1995, so it definitely needed to be repaired and updated. Town Council closed the pool for four summers, 2018-2021, while fundraising for the renovation project took place. Actual construction of the new pool began the summer of 2021. Our town pool provides wholesome, outdoor recreation for an estimated 35,500 people living in an area covered by the Bloomsburg and Central Columbia School Districts. Thousands of people of all ages enjoyed our community pool during 2017, the last summer it was open. Children and teenagers participated in summer camps, swim lessons, and swim team practices, while adults took part in lap swimming, pool walking, parties, and aqua zumba. Many people simply relaxed and had fun at the pool with their families and friends.

POOL RENOVATION PROJECT PLAN

The Town Pool has been an important part of the excellent quality of life of the Bloomsburg area for many years. In fact, last summer in 2021 the pool celebrated its 66th anniversary.

As you read this last section of our website, you might want to refer to the new pool renovation design which appears on this page. Based on the recommendations of architects, as well as input from our pool committee members, Bloomsburg area residents, and Town Council, our Pool Renovation Project committee has decided to replace the original Main Pool’s liner and deck, add competitive swim lanes and an ADA approved ramp, and make extensive ADA and other improvements to the Bathhouse. We are also planning to construct a completely new Wading Pool with zero entry and water features for small children. There will also be other entertainment upgrades and infrastructure improvements, such as a new slide and the installation of new plumbing.

Aquatic Facility Design of Millersburg and Ted Strosser Architecture of Danville were hired to prepare bid specs for the pool renovation project. In January 2021 Bloomsburg Town Council, which owns the town pool, awarded bids to Premier Pools of Plymouth Meeting to renovate the Main and Wading pools, and to Hepco Construction of Selinsgrove to renovate the Bathhouse. The final estimated cost for the total pool renovation project is $1.2 million.

Our Friends of the Bloomsburg Town Pool fundraising committee would like to thank everyone who has donated their time, energy and financial support, over the past four years, to help bring back this beloved recreation facility for the future enjoyment of our entire community!
